Konya Outskirts to City Centre – 2nd October
Distance: 17.6 km – Elevation +70 m -160 m
Weather: Sunny. Temperature: High 28 degrees
I pulled back the curtains of my room this morning to let in the light of the early morning sun, forgetting that my room was on the 14th floor, and was stunned by the view. I took full advantage of the bathtub, such a rarity, and then enjoyed a late and leisurely breakfast. I left the hotel at 10.00 am for a gentle stroll to my hotel in the city centre.
The walk took me through the Beyhekim District where I passed by the impressive Mustafa and Adile Kağnıcı Mosque which was opened in November 2017 after a 2 year construction period. It was commissioned by the sons of Mustafa and Adile Kağnıcı. Later I passed by a group of about 30 women, employees of the local council, tending the gardens on the approach to the city. It’s a very tidy and well-kept city.
Close to the Kyoto Japanese Park, I joined the tramway which runs from Selçuk University to the city centre. , A tram had just arrived and I was tempted to hop on but in the end, chose to continue walking. I followed the tramway for most of the remaining distance to the city centre with a short break for coffee before arriving at the Otel Selçuk at 4.30 pm.
My walking schedule prepared before leaving home shows an arrival date in Konya of the 4th of October, so I am here 2 days ahead of schedule. I have a free day here tomorrow to explore.
