A long hot day – 32 degrees – 18 miles mostly on roads – not many alternative off-road routes are available on this section. Mostly uninspiring but interesting. Saw an amazing flock of sheep that must have been two hundred strong being moved along the country lanes. The sheep were 5 abreast with the shepherd in the middle of the front rank marching at a good pace and the sheep kept in line – it was like a military procession! There are a lot of stray dogs in Italy and one accompanied me for around 5 kilometres today – Yorkshire type terrier. Not so far tomorrow around 10 miles but with a few climbs.
