Sant’Agata de’ Goti to Montesarchio – 15th June

Distance: 17.5 km – Elevation +340 m -160 m

Weather: Sunny. Temperature: High 31 degrees

Today started with laughter, my wonderful host and I trying to converse at breakfast with Google translate. I was much later starting today not leaving until 8.50 am and really after the climb out of town it was a relatively easy walk. Walking as yesterday along quiet country lanes and roads with numerous olive groves. Just two small communities the hamlet of Cotugni and the village of Bucciano. The views of Monte Taburno were outstanding.

Encountered a fearsome guard dog – standing at an open gate when seeing me approaching barked, and then turned and ran and hid behind a tractor with just its head visible, and continued to bark as I passed – it was so funny.

The only thing that hindered progress was the heat, 30 degrees again. My B&B in Montesarchio where is the most extraordinary magnificent house and I have it all to myself including a jaccuzì bath. Supper was a make-do of food from my rucksack and produce from a local shop which was enjoyed and shared with views of the Castello di Montesarchio on the hill behind the B&B.
